Jeremiah 51:20

"You are My battle-ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break the nation in pieces;"

Cyrus of Persia was God's instrument and weapon of war against Babylon's conquest of Israel. Nine times Jeremiah emphasizes that it's "with you" He will overthrow. Why so many reminders? He could have stated it just once, or maybe twice to get his point across; but no, nine times. Could it be because the people believed that victory would come through some other means? Perhaps another army? Perhaps through famine or peril? Or perhaps through hellfire and brimstone from the heavens on high? No, He chose people just like me.

How often I forget that I'm in a battlefield of raging war for and against my soul. I'm not dealing with mere flesh and blood, but with principalities, powers, world forces of this darkness, and spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (cf. Ephesians 6:12). These are terrifying things requiring the donning impenetrable armor and laying hold of offensive weapons of destruction (the Word). Triumph over sin and Satan himself will no doubt be supernatural, but it will also most likely occur through the common instruments of His created order, mankind. I can, and will be victorious, but I must stop looking for it to occur through some other passive means outside myself. I must actively look to Him, garner the armory supplied, and march forward with confidence that it's sufficient and powerfully destructive.

Today I pray that my mindset would be one of a war mentality, boldly waging battle against my enemy, thanking God that in the end I will triumph. He's using me!
