I Timothy 3:16

"Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness:

He was manifested in the flesh,

vindicated by the Spirit,

seen by angels,

proclaimed among the nations,

believed on in the world,

taken up in glory."

The mysterious nature of Christianity is attractive and yet at the same time inexplicable. It's simple, yet complicated. It's paradoxical, yet logical. And those who embrace by faith the teachings of Jesus and His atoning sacrifice are seen as enigmas; they don't fit into the world's construct. That's why it's mysterious. And it's mysterious because it's supernatural, therefore not of this world.

First, God (who is spirit; cf. John 4:24) manifested Himself in the flesh in Jesus. That's mysterious, and that's a difficult reality to accept because it's supernatural. Jesus was then vindicated by the Spirit; in other words Jesus was validated as God by the Spirit, evidenced when it descended upon Him after He was baptized by John the Baptist (cf. Luke 3:22) That's mysterious and hard to understand because it's supernatural. Jesus was seen by angels, whom I've never seen (or at least not knowingly; cf. Hebrews 13:2); they visited Him and attended to Him (cf. Matthew 4:11). That's mysterious and it's also supernatural. He is proclaimed among the nations. A man, Jesus Christ, is known across the globe, a man of 2,000 years ago that died a hideous death and lived a simple life is proclaimed. That's mysterious, and that's also supernatural. Furthermore, Jesus is believed upon in the world. Why would anyone believe, or put their faith/trust in this Man? Because He's supernatural, and therefore He's also mysterious. Finally, Jesus was taken up in glory (cf. John 12:23), and He's gone to prepare a place of glory for me and all who believe upon Him. He conquered death. That's mysterious, and simply could not have occurred had it all not been supernatural.

Jesus is godliness, and I am possessed by Him and He is in me. So, this means that His godliness becomes mine. And this, too, is a mystery, and it shall remain a mystery to all unless they're supernaturally saved, and even though the cloud of mystery is partially removed after salvation, there's always a portion that remains. Thank God I'm supernaturally redeemed; thank God I'm a mystery.
