"There are many who say,
'Who will show us any good?'
Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.
You have put gladness in my heart,
More than in the season their grain and wine increased."
In a puny little world of cynicism and dark godlessness, the flicker of light twinkling within me is radiant by contrast. There is gladness in my heart when I think upon Thee, and it drowns out the high-pitched and unpleasant ringings that constantly crash through my ears. There are those who find peace in the abundance of their possessions, but it's only a masking balm against their deeper plight. But not so with me, the redeemed. The heart of my heart is glad not in my blessings, but rather in the Giver of the blessing. And even when the blessing isn't evident, my heart shall rejoice for I have the light of life shooting through the veins of my soul.
May my countenance today outshine the countenance of those around me. It's source is from above, uncontaminated and pure, brilliant and blinding, powerful and never ending. Lift it up, O Lord.
