Matthew 27:42

"He saved others; Himself He cannot save."

The suffering Servant, silent before His accusers, willingly laying down His life, always giving Himself away. The irony of this scene while Jesus hung on the cross is that He not only could have saved Himself, but that He could have also destroyed the entirety of humanity at that very moment. And even more ironic is that in His death He was not only saving Himself, but also the entirety of His chosen, precious children.

Things are not always what they appear to be. There's a supernatural realm that's constantly before, within and behind me. More often than I might possibly imagine the opposite of what I think is happening is really happening. Meaning, when I see suffering and pain, there's something much bigger taking place than my human eye and mind can perceive. When I see injustice inflicted upon the helpless and hopeless, there's something much more significant being orchestrated for the sake of eternity future. When I see death and destruction, there's something much more lively and constructive being controlled than comprehensible.

And on a personal level, when I or someone close to me experiences much less severe things, like daily disappointments and occasional discouragements, there's something more grand occurring. If the Lord willed, He could wipe all those things away right now, but He doesn't. He's doing something in His best interest (which He has every right to do) that will ultimately be for my best interest. I'm connected to Him and He to me. We're inseparable. (cf. Romans 8:35)

So today when I find myself thinking that something didn't turn out the way I hoped, perhaps it's actually turning out much better than I envisioned.
