"Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power."
I've been cheated so many times in my life, but I don't blame anyone for that but myself. I have too often naively permitted the philosophies and empty deceit that come from idiotic traditions fool me into thinking they're better than what Jesus has to offer. These basic principles of the world are not from Him. Jesus said that He is "not of the world". (John 17:14c) Furthermore, what's even more astounding (because I would expect God incarnate to be divine), is that I am not of the world either. Jesus also said, "They are not of the world,". (John 17:16a) This means that I am of someone, something else. And that someone, something else is supernatural; I am from God Almighty, also sent to accomplish a work that He might be magnified. So if I'm of Him, an alien and foreigner in a strange land, designed and created to do a work that draws eyes to Him, why would I embrace another design that misdirects my original purpose? Because I've been cheated. And may I make no mistake in the future that those who seek to destroy and kill are crafty and conniving. 'God, protect me from the evil one. Thank you that Jesus prayed and prays this on my behalf. Hear His prayer "that You should keep them from the evil one." (John 17:15b)'
I am "complete in Him". He "is the head of all principality and power". Nothing has authority over me but Jesus. So, knowing I'm complete, lacking in nothing, I need not pursue or be swayed by anything that's not of Him, knowing that He has authority over all principalities and powers. What a confident and bold place to stand, not only the knowledge of this, but also in the presence of Him.
