II Corinthians 9:6

"But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully."

One seed, one plant. A bounty of seeds and a bounty of plants. A simple principle of nature and a simple principle of life. God has given each plant the ability to reproduce with its own seeds. He has also given me an abundance of seeds that were never meant to remain in their shell and become dormant, but to be sown. What are those seeds and what am I doing with them?

Spiritual seeds are often most thought of as the financial variety. While that's what Paul was specifically directing the Corinthian's hearts and minds toward here, there are no doubt a plethora of other kinds of seeds God's blessed me with. I have the gospel of grace, more than abundant and sufficient for the needs of all. (cf. II Corinthians 9:8) The "good deeds" watered by grace multiply into a harvest yielding bushels and bushels of crops. Every thought considered, every word uttered, and every action taken that's motivated by the gospel are seeds sown that may produce a bounty of harvest. Looking at the seed it does not appear to possess much power. But over time, with watering by me and others, it starts to grow slowly but surely. If I stare at it, it doesn't seem to be sprouting at all. But over the course of the seasons it blossoms into a plant that was unimaginable when I first contemplated that tiny seed that sat in the palm of my hand.

I cannot underestimate the significance of my seeds. May I throw them to and fro today across a large field, believing that God's grace will do its work for the Harvester to eventually pick His crop and enjoy the fruits of the labor.
