"But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea."
'Lord, I'm comforted by your justice because the ache caused by injustice can sometimes be overwhelming. Your promise that "'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay', thus sayeth the Lord." (Romans 12:19b) provides peace when my own hackles about inequities rise. Regardless of whether Jesus was referring to little children (literally) or little children of God (figuratively inclusive of all Christians), it's sobering and frightening to think that those who intentionally lead such astray would have been better off had they never been born. (The context of this text leads me to think that Jesus was literally referring to children in spite of many commentators' opinions otherwise. I also know that Your heart is big for the "least of these".)
God, allow any anger I might have over these types of things to be a righteous anger, and do not allow the sun to go down on my own wrath. (cf. Ephesians 4:26) And at the same time, help me dear Lord to view those who engage in such injustices as ones lost, as sheep without a shepherd (cf. Matthew 9:36) and in need of a Savior. Apart from Christ, such was I and such could I have been and done.'
