"Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has
prepared for those who love Him."
'God, I stand in awe at the wonder of Your wisdom. Things about You, things that You have prepared for me are beyond what my finite mind could possibly comprehend. But You have made a way for me to grasp, if even ever so lightly, just a slight sliver of Your all surpassing wisdom. You've given it to me through Your Spirit, which was an outpouring of infinite love toward me. (cf. Romans 5:5) Your Spirit searches all things, including Your very deep things. (cf. I Corinthians 1:10) My spirit knows me all too well, but probably not all encompassingly. Some things about me surely pass by my knowing. But to possess now not only my puny little spirit, but also the Spirit which is from You allows me to know and love You, God all-wise. It's Your Spirit that makes me "deeply and refreshingly aware" (John Stott) that You love me. And now I can also "know the things that have been freely given to" (I Corinthians 1:12c) me by You.
So today, Lord, I want to know and to live those priceless but free gifts. The gift of life everlasting, the gift of life abundantly, the gift of love, the gift of peace with You, the gift Your Spirit, the gift of grace, the gift of faith, the gift of Truth, the gift of hope, the gift of Jesus. I'm swimming in a sea of wrapping paper with colorful bows and ribbons all unwrapped from the innumerable presents given just because You love me. I'm overwhelmed. So when I'm tempted by the tempter to think that I'm unloved, I ask that You'd bring to my remembrance these things showered upon my undeserving soul.
Thank you, my Lord.'
