"It is because we have no bread."
'Dear God, there are so many grains of grace to choose from my reading this morning that it's almost impossible to pick just one to write and pray about. But I land on this verse because I'm so very forgetful, just like the disciples. Right after having fed thousands with a mere penance of food to start with, they're wondering why Jesus would be warning them about the leaven of the Pharisees. Stomachs are full, but the heart and the mind which are much more important bodily organs that feed the everlasting soul are still malnourished with doubt and forgetfulness. And one of the reasons why they were forgetful, and why I'm also forgetful of Your great power is because they've/I've fed on the "wisdom" of the world for oh so long. It takes time to detoxify myself. As I do it leaves a vacuum that must be filled with something, and that something needs to be the eternal Truth of Your Word, health food. How else am I going to rid myself of the leaven of the Pharisees, or in my case the leaven of the flesh, world and Satan? No one, no thing can stand up against it. If it has the power to save against Your wrath and conquer death, then it has the power to accomplish things that are seemingly less impressive.
Don't let me forget today, God, where You've brought me from, how You've fed me all these years, and that I stand in the grace of Your almighty presence as if my feet were buried in solid concrete. (cf. Romans 5:2) We're immovable and inseparable from one another, You and me. You have me forever. I need to remember this today as I put one step in front of the other, take one breath after another, and see time tick by one second by another. Your glory is what I seek. Bring to my remembrance all things whatsoever you have commanded me, and lo, You are with me always, even unto the end of the age. (cf. John 17:17; Matthew 28:19-20)'
