Mark 9:23

"'If You can!' All things are possible to him who believes."

'God, what a remarkable display of wisdom and power when Jesus rebukes the demon possessing the young boy. The disciples could not successfully command it to come out. Later Jesus tells them that ones such as those are only removed with great prayer. (cf Mark 9:29)

Belief and prayer are inseparable. I do believe, Lord, in so many things about you. But like the young boy's father I need You to "help my unbelief". (cf. Mark 9:24b) My unbelief, Lord, is generated by my limited trust that Your power can overcome any obstacle placed before man. And that limited trust is constrained by my own belief that Your power will only be exercised through the limitations of man, and oh what limitations I have. What I see and know is not what's truly seen and known by You. I want to look beyond what's seen and known to do things for You that have never been seen or known, even if I'm the only one seeing it. God, unleash Your great power in my life, help my unbelief, give me desire and discipline to pray, and let me not be afraid.

I am soon, within the next 48 hours, set to stand before hundreds and deliver the truth of Your Word for the first time in a preaching capacity. I feel and sense the work of Satan to discourage me and tell me that I'm not equipped and that it will have little effect upon Your chosen ones. I also wrestle with my own flesh, concerned about what others may think of what I have to say or how I say it. Shield me from the devil, and forgive me for my fear of man. I need neither, and see from reading this passage this morning that I need more time with You in prayer. Without it, it's impossible, but with it and an unwavering belief in Your power and promises, all things are possible. Save me from myself, and go forth in spite of myself.'
